For this course, it is important to be familiar with several important
developmental lines in social history, in which care for others has
evolved from clearly structured church, neighborhood, work, or family
relationships to the modern, abstract care provided in our current care
and welfare system.
In conjunction with the Political Science and Economics module, this
module forms the historical component of research into the ‘structure of
the welfare state’.
Furthermore, it is important to be familiar with the circumstances that
led to the emergence of the modern core family as the standard form of
cohabitation in today’s society.
A question that can then be asked is: “In what way has the ideal family
served as a model for social work services?”
