Conversation Training
It is important for social workers to be able to apply various
conversational skills in support conversations.
Examples of such conversational skills include: active listening, asking
questions, summarizing, probing, paraphrasing, clarifying, expressing an
opinion, expressing feelings, providing feedback, and handling criticism.
Examples of conversational models include: the informational
conversation, the bad-news conversation, the advisory and
problem-solving conversation, the corrective conversation, and telephone
conversations.
Participating in role-playing is also important, both: for personal and
professional learning.
